Where to Eat, Where to Stay

Lisbon

WHERE TO EAT

BUT FIRST, COFFEE…

Café A Brasileira
One of the oldest and most famous cafes in Lisbon. Located in the Chiado district. Decent coffee and pasteis de nata (but they are better in Belem!).
120 Rua Garrett, Lisbon

RESTAURANTS

This is by no means an exhaustive list, just ones I’ve personally tried and liked.

Restaurant Carmo
Charming little spot featuring modern takes on traditional Portuguese dishes. From the Table Group (they also own Figu’s, Sacramento, Mar ao Carmo, and Mar ao Largo).
Largo do Carmo, 10

Figu’s
Modern and traditional Portuguese dishes (also from Table Group Restaurant team).
Praça da Figueira, 17

WHERE TO STAY

Brown’s Downtown

Terrific boutique hotel housed in a former estate (the lobby was originally a stable). The rooms are small but luxurious; the staff is really kind and helpful. Centrally located in the Baixa Chiado shopping district a few blocks from Elevator Santa Justa.

Rua Dos Sapateiros 69-79, Lisbon

Brown’s Central

Even closer to Elevator Santa Justa (and the newest location in the Brown’s Lisbon group), Brown’s Central is a great place to stay in the central Baixa district. Enjoy a complimentary welcome drink in the hip and stylish bar.

Rua Da Assuncao, Nº75, Lisbon

MONTE BELVEDERE  BY SHIADU

Formerly a French perfume factory, the Monte Belvedere boutique hotel is located Barrio Alto, a short walk from the central Baixa district. Rooms are stylish and very comfortable and the breakfast bar is amazing (see example above)! The Shiadu Group also has boutique hotels in Porto and Seville (learn more at https://www.shiadu.com/).
